Only 20% of Malagasy primary school teachers have civil servant status and receive a regular salary paid by the state.
The lack of resources deployed by the public services means that 80% of teachers (often untrained) are directly recruited and poorly paid by the pupils' parents themselves (including in state schools). Parental burdens are therefore heavy and represent one of the main causes of the high drop-out rate. The lack of well-trained teachers and teaching materials makes it difficult to provide quality teaching to pupils in overcrowded classes.
At the School of the Little Giants, all the teachers are trained and qualified. They are paid by J'IRAI A L'ECOLE and have social security cover.
